Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

Truth is Truth

I’m wondering if we got the New Year off to a rocky start? My first post of 2015 should be all glitzy and shiny, but that’s not how we roll here, now is it?

Because here’s the truth of it all: it’s just another page on the calendar.

Yes, yes. I know. Clean slate. Fresh start. Great intentions. Resolve to be better. And I can see the beauty in that and appreciate it. After all, I love a fresh blanket of snow from the cozy side of my window as much as the next girl.

But the thing is, it only looks pretty and new for so long. Once you step outside and get into it things start to look messy. And that messy can leave us wondering what that means for us and our good intentions and resolutions to be anything other than what we were only days ago.

Turning the page on a calendar doesn’t change who we are.

I’m the same Becky I was a few days ago. I still love chocolate and I haven’t instantly organized my garage. My pants are the same size as they were and my emotions still ride too close to the surface.

You know what else is the same?

I am loved.

And so are you.

God loved you the same in 2014 as you were eating Christmas cookies and in 2015 as you are eating salad. He loved you the same three months ago and He’ll love you the same three months from now. He loves us just as we are, everyday, every year.

So this year, let’s make one choice: to believe God loves us. And when we forget, when the newness has worn off and the snow looks dirty, that’s ok too. Because God loves us whether we believe it or not.

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I’m here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.
