Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

Is There Room?

I started these 31 days in desperation. It felt like a make it or break it time for me in my writing. Have you been there? Maybe it’s not with writing, but some other dream you’ve pursued that wasn’t moving forward the way you thought?

I was hoping the 31 days would give me clear direction, purpose, and renewed vision that felt concrete. It did that a little, but the surprise of my series was that God showed up.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised. But here I am writing away and feeling closer to Him than I have in a long time. I used those days to let go of my need for perfection and control, even when it came to very unusual prompts. It felt awkward and frustrating to let go, but once I did it felt good too. The kind of good that you can’t fabricate in any list or schedule.

Do you know why I believe it happened?  I let go of parts of me and left room for God.

Are there places in your life that you invite God in on your terms? Places where you leave Him a seat at the table or a corner of your day? He will come. And He will fill those exact places. But what if you left more room? What if instead of a seat at the table you opened your whole space? What if instead of a corner of your day you walked forward putting your own agenda down and asking Him be part of it all?

Those are the moments when He gets to show us more of who He is.

A big God with big love.

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.

  1. Would it be the lamest comment ever if I just said “ditto?” Seriousy girl….exactly my experience! My #write31days series brought me so much closer to God and somehow helped me let go of parts of myself that had been standing in the way of my writing success for a long time. Namely….writing for anyone else but an audience of ONE. Blessings to you girl!

That’s fantastic! It’s so great to see God moving in someone’s life. Keep going girl; you’ve got this because He’s got you!

  2. So glad God showed up and spoke to you. “I let go of parts of me and left room for God.” –> YES! I’m always needing to do this myself. 🙂 And well done writing for 31 days! I’m glad you linked up at #ThreeWordWednesday.
