Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

I Want You to See Through Me

I want you to see through me

Through the clothes that try so hard

to fit my flesh, my heart, my place in this world.

Through the skin that can never seem to protect

from the things that really wound a soul.

Through the muscle and fat and tissue that works so hard

always playing a tug of war between too much and never enough.

Through the bones that try to hold me up

when the weight of my scars is too much to bear.

I want you to see through me

Clear to the other side

beyond the things that you can touch

and feel far too much.

To the place in me that is not measured

or weighed

or looked over

to define it’s value.

I need you to put your tools away

and look close and soft

until the parts of me in focus

are the only ones that matter.

It’s been a long time since I’ve let words weave poetic here in this space. I hope you find a piece that stirs your soul today and reminds you that you are never alone.

Sharing words with other great writers today!

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.
