Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

My Year In Review 2016

As 2016 comes to a close, I find myself drawn to looking back before I look ahead. It’s more than nostalgia, but a desire to see where I came from in order to have a clearer view of where I’m going. My space here at My Ink Dance is no exception.

I’ve grown this year as a writer. It makes me so proud to type those words. I finished a draft of my novel. I wrote my first ebook (I’d love your feedback…grab it free here). I posted faithfully here and broadened my skills, finally completing an online writing course I had purchased. I created a video as a gift to you. And I’ve managed to do this while navigating motherhood, marriage, faith, and a host of other demands. I am honestly proud of myself. And that feels good to say.

Not to say the year hasn’t had it’s trials. I’ve struggled for vision, longed to be at a different place on my journey, yelled at my people, questioned my faith, and made countless mistakes. But I kept writing.

It’s been a full year, and I couldn’t have done it without you. Your encouragement, thoughtful dialog, and willingness to share your heart matter. Thank you.

My Most Viewed Posts 2016

When Real Life Interrupts Your Calling resonated with people longing to marry the big ideas of a call with the demands of real of.

What I Learned Summer Edition was a surprising hit, but I think we all want to learn and grow. Plus, I talked about ice cream.

There is No Sledgehammer God  was a guest post that gave people the truth they needed to hear about a loving, gracious God.

How Real Are We Willing to Be? involved a brave (or crazy) confession that freed others to be more real in their lives.

My Guests 2016

I cracked the door open for you to hear from other amazing writers this year. You were so welcoming and kind to these amazing friends. Jason’s post about God made the top posts list above! Kathi shared her wisdom from 36 years of marriage, while Bethany explored strengthening the relationship between friends. Natalie tenderly shared her search for Grace, much like my own this year.

My Writing Elsewhere

When Healing Doesn’t Look the Way We Thought it Would is something we could all relate to.

The One Word You Need When Everything is Falling Apart shared my true story that involved me screaming in my kitchen.

When I Get Tired of My Voice was a raw piece about the part of writing no one sees.

Are We Playing Church? explored more faith questions, and Altarwork was so kind to host a series of my other work.

In Busy We Trust is something too many of us know too well.

My Favorites

This feels like picking a favorite child. Impossible because each has so much meaning and value in their unique ways. There are two pieces I am particularly proud of because they reveal my heart so deeply and are expressed in such a vulnerable way.

I Want You To See Through Me is the longing of my heart. Completely.

A Love Letter to My Body is something I never thought I would be able to do. But sometimes you have to do those things no matter what you think.

In full gratitude for all the ups and downs of 2016, and with full anticipation for all that 2017 will bring!

Thank you for being part of the dance.

Sharing words with these great writers today!

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.
