Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

When Your Voice Shakes

I had to make an announcement today at church. It was a small announcement, nothing earth shattering. Still my voice shook.

I felt silly for letting something so minor get the best of me. My husband assured me you couldn’t tell and all was well. Yet, I was still frustrated with myself.

I didn’t want to do it nervous. I wanted to be ready. I wanted to be prepared and confident.

But guess what. I think God loves when our voices shake. He loves it and honors it because it shows faith. It shows how scared we really are, but that we do it anyway. It shows that we believe what He calls us to is more important than weak knees and a trembling voice.

When we step out shaky, God steps up strong.

Every single time.

It’s been said to let your faith be bigger than your fear. The part they don’t tell is how much bigger. Faith only needs the tiniest advantage to win.

Where is your voice shaking? Where do you knees feel weak? Is it what God is calling you to?

Step out and do it scared. That’s faith God will honor.

It hasn’t always been easy for me to believe. I’ve spent the better part of my life battling between being not enough and too much all at once. Never quite just right.

But God…

See, that’s what it all comes down to. This whole thing isn’t about us. It’s about Him.

We can do and be and live full or broken, but either way it all comes back to who He is and who He made us to be.

What will you choose today?

Do you ever struggle with believing who God says you are? I do. So, I wrote something to remind us. Worthy: Believe Who God Says You Are is a 20 day devotional that will help you live a life believing. Check it out here.

  1. The last time I had to teach before an unfamiliar crowd, I asked God to calm my nervousness so that I would not be a distraction from the Truth He wanted to communicate. I was thankful that He answered that prayer exceedingly and abundantly — thanks for putting the emphasis on Him and His willingness to meet us with our shaking voices and weakness.

Isn’t it amazing how He always comes through!

  2. Becky, thanks for supporting my 52 Commands. Remember Moses stuttered or lisped and God sure didn’t set him on a shelf!!! Shaky or not, God’s message gets out. Amen?

      Amen!!!

  3. Becky, I know what you mean! I’ve been making videos for my blog, and sometimes my voice gets shaky. But I often don’t edit it out, because I want viewers to see the real me that God also sees. Great post!

Real always wins! It may feel raw and uncertain, but God loves us real!
