Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

Let Yourself Get Lost

I fell back in love with fiction this month. Actually, I never fell out of love. I just allowed myself to get lost.

Fiction is a happy place, usually allowing me to wander and wonder through all the imaginings of the writer. It’s a beautiful thing to get so wrapped up in a character that you don’t want the story to end. I love the books that have you racing for the last page, but holding yourself back to make it last longer.

I loved my wanderings through words and stories to places I never knew I’d love.

Don't miss fiction to get lost in only to find pieces of yourself! Here's what I read this month @ My Ink Dance.

Don't miss this unforgettable story! lost myself in flashbacks of childhood summers and love. But this wasn’t any love, this was love at it’s truest and childhoods I could understand, childhood of the misfits. The Promise of Jesse Woods weaves an engaging story of the promises we make in hard places and the people left in their wake. You will not regret getting lost in the story of Matt and Jesse and a night that changed everything. Friendship, hardship, faith, and family are all woven into Fabry’s unforgettable story.

Amazing fiction filled with practical insight about your own journey! Shoes: A Story About The Spiritual Journey was unlike any book I’ve ever read. Completely fictional, yet filled with practical spiritual advice, this story weaves together four women as they search for pieces of their missing faith. While you journey with them, you cannot help but take your own journey. I find myself rereading sections of this beautiful story to deepen my own faith.

Sharon Garlough Brown takes you on a journey to understanding your faith, giving you life application steps that linger far beyond the pages of her book. She challenges you with questions like, “Which practices create space where God can dwell deeply within you?” while still creating a story full of characters that you long to know more about. Biblically sound, this book left me wanting a sequel

Deep in my heart, I love when words are woven together to create art. Atticus writes poetry that fills your heart in only a few words at a time. I first discovered his work on Instagram, but was thrilled with the release of his book, Love Her Wild. Even if you think poetry is not for you, everyone can find something beautiful in these pages.

Amazing guide to help you grow closer to God in your everyday life! exciting book I had the privilege to read before publication is Rachel Larkin’s Simple Prayer: The Guide for Ordinary People Seeking the Extraordinary. Part inspirational non-fiction, part story, part handbook, Larkin helps you develop prayer practices for your normal, everyday life with the simple goal of growing closer to God. Don’t miss this book!

If you’re looking for an encouraging read don’t miss Worthy: Believe Who God Says You Are. It is a 20 day devotional that will change the way you think!

You have the chance to live your life believing all that God says about you! This book will help you through stories, scripture, prayer & action steps so you can live believing!

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.

  1. When I go too long without a novel, I forget, too, how much fun fiction can be. I’ve been trying to keep a novel going the past couple of years but I don’t have one going right now. Tomorrow I’ll go back to the library though and correct that. 🙂 Sensible Shoes sounds like a book I’d love; I’ll look into that one! Thanks for sharing these, Becky.
