Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

Five Minute Friday….Willing

I’m linking up with Lisa-Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday.

Five minutes.

One word.

No editing.

No rethinking.

Just writing.

Today’s word: Willing

I’ve been to the edge of a cliff many times. Usually, I make myself comfortable there. I relax and dig deep thinking, I climbed the mountain God, You’re going to take care of the cliff, right?

And I wait.

Sometimes He does. He takes care of it all and allows me to rest from the climb. But sometimes he calls me to jump. And I’m usually not very willing.

See, I like control. I like to know what to expect and how things are going to unfold. Jumping is the most unpredictable thing I’ve known (other than kids, but that’s a leap in it’s own right, minute by minute). God doesn’t ask us to control anything though. He doesn’t even ask us to understand. He sometimes just wants us to listen and be willing to act.

He promises to catch us. He promises He’ll be there. And all He asks of us is to be willing to trust Him.

That first step is never easy, but the feeling when He catches us is far better than the edge ever was.

I took a leap recently, and every step is a heart in my throat act of obedience. But each time my foot lands I see a new piece of His faithfulness.

Every so often Hollywood captures God truths without realizing it.

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.

  1. This says so much in such a small number of words. Keep walking by faith! Visiting from FMF.

  2. I like this, very similar to how mine looks this week, but from a different angle. I bless you to hear God’s voice in every step of your journey and that the peace of God would guide you. Five minute Friday Friend

  3. And it looks a bit like mine but also from a different perspective! Checked out your blog while I was here visiting from FMF, and I like what I see. I love to write but talk about my writing mostly at, and my faith at Sowing Seeds of Grace.

I love Jeff Goins and what he stands for and what he teaches/gives to us about writing. Look forward to reading more of your writing as the days go by.
