Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

When Your Feelings Are All Over The Place

It amazes me how quickly my feelings can change. One minute I can be thrilled, feeling accomplished and full of vision. And then a day passes (or a few minutes) and everything changes. Suddenly, I feel incapable of anything and have no idea where to turn. wavesLast week I was so excited. Full of joy. I published my first e-book (grab your FREE copy here). It was amazing and great and lasted less than a week.

Now, I’m sitting in front of my computer, completely overwhelmed and uncertain. My brain feels like a ball in a loud, irritating pinball machine that I just can’t seem to stop.

Have you ever been there? Struggling with the shift in emotions and left to wonder why? How can feelings change so fast? How can we make the right choices when our feelings are all over the place?

And here’s the part where I have the magic answer, right? The carefully designed quote to post on Instagram reminding us how we have the answers.

But the truth is we don’t have the answers. And the bigger truth: we’re not supposed to.

God never promised us a walk filled with every road sign and neon arrows. He never said he would give us the whole story of our lives so we can follow along as an actress reading a script.

Our God is too creative to settle for pulling puppet strings and watching us dance. He may know the outcome, but He gives us the choices along the way. And sometimes all those choices feel like an out of control pinball game, but that doesn’t mean they are bad.

Because that whole time, that whole messy, confusing, twisted path, the one thing He is doing is staying right by our side. Sure, He could just watch and see what happens, but our God wants more than that for us. He wants us to know that we’re not alone. He wants to experience life with us.

There is no feeling, no chaos, no hard thing that is too much for God. Click To Tweet

When we stop focusing on the chaos of our feelings and focus instead on the calm of who God is that pinball machine gets a little quieter. We still may not have every answer. Our feelings may have ups and downs and unknowns, but God will never leave our side.

So turn and look at Him friend. Look at Him in the messy chaos all around you. He will be your anchor and He will never walk away from you. There is no feeling, no chaos, no hard thing that is too much for God.
