Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

What I’ve Been Reading

It’s book time! I love finding great books, and this month was a perfect balance between page turning fiction and non-fiction that really makes you think.

I’ve shared my affinity for Charles Martin’s writing before, and this book was no exception. Engrossed in characters and a captivating story, I turned pages long into the night. Long Way Gone weaves biblical truth gently with a story spanning tent revivals, hitting it big in the music scene, the fall that comes from the highest pedestals and a father who loved fully. It was a stunning take on the story of the Prodigal Son.

Also, don’t miss this book by Martin, on the big screen. Catch the trailer here!

The perfect balance of challenge and encouragement, Tricia Goyer, helps you see how to apply God’s word to real life in Walk It Out. And before you think you can’t and start listing the excuses, this women has 10 kids. Let that sink in for a moment. A kind friend who speaks truth, Goyer walks alongside you as you learn how to live a life dedicated to God’s calling. Don’t miss her guest post here!

This book surprised me, in all the right ways. I loved the concept and the beautiful design, but when I started reading Chasing Slow it wasn’t what I thought it would be. Sometimes the very thing we need isn’t at all what we thought it was. Erin Loechner weaves her story with encouragement and biblical truth to help you look at what chasing slow means in your own life. I couldn’t stop turning pages. Part memoir, part inspiration, all beauty, Chasing Slow helps you see what you long for in your own life.

Before We Were Yours is a tragically beautiful piece of fiction loosely inspired by real events. An instant New York Times best-seller, it showcases the resilience of a family torn apart, secrets kept for generations, and the beauty in all the in between. A definite page-turner that lingered after I closed the cover. I love a book that can make you feel, and Wingate is a master. Don’t miss this beautiful story.

As always, I have more than a few books on my To Be Read list. I’m eager to dig into this one!

If you haven’t read Worthy: Believe Who God Says You Are, now is the time! It will encourage and equip you to believe who you are because of who God is.

Sharing words at #raralinkup and with these great writers today!

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.

Hi Becky, these sound like great picks! I’m wondering how you find such a good selection?

Is it too simple to say: I love books? I thought so. I did a few things to be more purposeful about my reading, including trying to balance non-fiction and fiction. I actually love your question…maybe I’ll write a post about it 🙂
