Discovering Extraordinary Grace in an Ordinary Life

New Word for a New Year

It’s not my first time ringing in the new year with a word. I find it centering to find a word to be an umbrella, an overarching idea for my whole year.

You can read about my word last year (and why you need one) and the year before to get an idea of what I mean. This year I’ve actually been stuck between two words that have the same idea. They encompass the same idea but somehow evoke different feelings in me. I know this sounds very secretive; it’s really not. But I do have a surprise in the works for you!

First, my word of the year. Are you ready? I know I am!

2018 will be a year of abiding at My Ink Dance.

It feels right and calm and centering in the best way. I am excited to see what the year holds.

One thing I know is coming is something I’m creating just for you. Actually, it’s for me too. Because the truth is I lose track of God in the daily living of life. I go about the kids and the laundry and the work and push Him further and further away. Then I wonder why I don’t feel connected to God. Can you relate?

I’m putting the finishing touches on something that will help us both. And before you worry that it’s one more thing to put on your to do list, let me assure you, I’m walking it with you so you know it can’t be too complicated. I can’t say too much more right now, but here’s a sneak peek. If you want to be first in on all the details make sure you’re on my mailing lists now! Click here to sign up!

About Becky Hastings

I am emotional and logical. I am strong and dependent. I am a juxtaposition of head and heart exploring it all through writing. And in all my mixed-up ways I am loved. I'm here to tell you that you are, too. Just the way you are.

  2. How interesting! Abiding was one of my Word of the Year words in the past. I didn’t learn it very well, so I’m excited to see what you have to say about it.

  6. Abide is such a great word for the year. It was my word in 2015. I keep my block letters (from Dayspring) on my desk to help me remember I always need to abide in Christ.

      That’s awesome!

  7. Dear Becky, what a terrific word: ABIDE. And it’s companion word, dwell just reinforces our need to stay immersed in our Heavenly Father. Blessings and prayers that this will be a year to discover more than you ever dreamed by abiding.

  9. Abide is a beautiful choice. I *tried* memorizing John 15 a few years ago and abide is one word that still sticks with me from it.

Isn’t it a lovely word? It’s so gentle. (And I hear you on the memorizing!)

  10. Abide—what a great word. Love it! Can’t wait to see how it unfolds throughout your year, friend. — And, excited for Dwell! Happy New Year, Becky! ♥

It’s going to be a great year 🙂

  11. Last year I paraphrased each chapter of Abide With Christ, by Andrew Murray into a couplet. His book is a great read.

    1. Becky Hastings

Oooohhh! I will have to check it out!

  12. I love this New Year’s one word thing. They’re really effective, btw. Mine before was More. I did more indeed. Now it’s trust. My plans have been changed by God late last year so now I’m just trusting Him to guide me through as I figure my way. Happy 2018!

Trust is such a great word! God’s been showing me a lot about trust recently, and I have a book in the works on the topic!
